I am interested in voices. My own, yes. It has been hard to come by. But yours, as well. And the voices of people not
often heard. I am interested in writing in the service of life, not the other way around. Yes, we all want to be published.  But in the end, a life well lived matters more.

my why

"I was her fourth husband. That should have been a red flag for me. But I grew up with red flags. What would a home be without red flags? I had no idea."

It takes a special kind of writer to deliver their truth in a way that leaves readers feeling comforted and less alone in the mess of life. Bill’s writing, at times gut-wrenching, in other moments, irreverent, captures the essence of the human experience as he shares stories of suffering, joy, self-discovery, and wrestling with life’s unanswered questions.

about bill

HLPBrands127.jpg

Bill Miller started his writing career as most good writers do, as a reader. He will freely admit that reading saved his life by introducing him to
worlds beyond the one he knew. And then, as most writers do, he found other work to support himself.  And gave up all hope of ever writing for a
living. His solace was writing in his journals, and in raising his children. He was the father to them that he had never had. And books. And people, if always from a writer’s distance.

The fascination with written words has never left him. He loves to read other people’s work, whether published or not. He has finished a memoir
and has other books and poems in scattered places. He believes in the power of words, the power of the pen, even now when the climate of words has changed as dramatically as the world’s weather climate.

Well, says his friend the narrator who often speaks out of turn. Don’t be so bleak! We also have art and photography and theatre and film. And good old-fashioned conversation. And don’t look now, but there is even that most ancient of change agents, falling in love with all the hurricanes and rainbows that can render.

Yes, says Bill, which is the name the writer uses. All those things are true. Let’s stay the course. Let’s write like the wind, as Bill Downey used to say.

And so, the two friendly enemies, writer and narrator, will continue. Please join them, and us. Drop us a line. We’d love to hear from you. Check our agency website too if you have written something you’d like us to read. We love a good story!

"Jesus was a jelly donut really. God was a jelly donut. One bite, just one bite through the cloud of puff and powder to hit paydirt, strawberry jelly on the inside. Yes, I believed. I believed in the god of jelly donuts."
